Music Video Censorship

1.JPGThe concept and medium utilized by music videos is a form of artistic expression and there have been numerous instances wherein contents of music videos have been censored due to what is deemed as offensive content. The form of censorship and degree of offensiveness would differ from country to country based mostly on local ethics and customs aside from prevailing censorship laws. As a workaround, record labels would distribute edited and unedited versions of the artist’s video.

Some music videos that were edited or totally banned include:
• Girls on Film
• If I Could Turn Back Time
• Black or White
• They Don’t Care About Us
• Lucky Star
• Like a Virgin
• Papa Don’t Preach
• Like a Prayer
• Justify My Love
• Erotica
• What It Feels Like for a Girl
• American Life
• Smack My Bitch Up
• Firestarter
• War All the Time
• God Save the Queen
• Call on Me
• (s)AINT
