1960 – The Scopitone, a visual jukebox was invented in France and many short films were produced thereafter.
1961 – Ozzie Nelson directed and edited the video “Travelin Man” by his son Ricky Nelson.
1964 – The Beatles first motion picture “A Hard Day’s Night”, used filmed live action sequences accompanied by music.
1965 – The Byrds released their single “Set you free this time”.
1966 – The Kinks made one of the first real plot promo clips for their song. Another plot clip was from “The Who’s – Happy Jack”.
1967 – Beatles cong “Strawbery Fields Forever” and “Penny Lane” used techniques from avant garde and underground films like; dramatic lighting, reversed film effects, unusual camera angles and color filtering.
1968 – Promotional Films begun. Bands such as The Byrds and The Beach Boys used this type due to the popularity made by the animated film “Yellow Submarine”.
1969-1970 – Bands preferred to performing in TV shows which made them more visually attractive to the market.
